CosmoDoggyNews: Patrick's Miracle Three Years Later

Patrick's story became popular when, in March 2011, he was found inside a plastic bag where his current owner,  Kisha Curtis, had left him to die. Thanks to the unremitting efforts of Garden State Veterinary staff and thousands of charitable souls, the story not only had a happy ending, but also marked an inflection point in the subject of animal rights and animal abuse legislation.

After a campaign that combined the efforts of politicians,
animal rights organizations as well as animal lovers, millions of people worldwide joined the movement. In August 2013, New Jersey's government passed “Patrick’s Law”, a little bit after Kisha Curtis pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.

After a full recovery, Patrick got a
new home and a foster mum, Patricia Smillie-Scavelli. Patricia took care of him until a permanent home for the pitbull could be decided between the City of Newark or the Human Society, which both claim Patrick's custody.
